We arrived around 6pm, and we were greeted by a note and a set of keys with instructions as to how to find our room. We went to the next building, went to the second floor, unlocked the correct door, and immediately saw that the room was occupied. Fortunately, the occupant was not there, but an opened suitcase and a disheveled bed was in evidence. Flabbergasted, we went back to the main building and called the number posted there for any inquiries. Betsy answered, and said her husband could help, but she said to shout up the stairs to be sure we would be heard. He came down, and with the most cavalier attitude imaginable, he said he didn't think he could do anything to "make us happy". We left and found accommodations elsewhere. Either business is too good for them that they could carelessly double-book a room with impunity, or they just don't give a damn. I think the latter. Betsy's receives my lowest level of evaluation and my maximum level of scorn. By the way, the place is a dump. We have read the owners' reply, and we take strong exception to claims about our being "verbally abusive" and "agitated". We were upset, yes; after all, by the owners' negligence we were left without a room and we could have caused mutual embarrassment by entering an occupied room with the key provided us. Suggesting that we behaved inappropriately gives them an excuse, I guess. The owners were wrong; they made egregious mistakes. I would have had respect for an abject apology without the counter-attack.
Enjoyed our stay. The breakfasts each morning were delicious. Short walk to town, and great exercise as they are atop the hill. Friendly staff - they gave my wife a bread-pudding recipe and hasn't stopped using it.
They were super accommodating to my late arrival via train, and breakfast was delicious. I stayed in the suite (what was available at the last minute), which would be perfect for a family or few friends. It's also within a short (under 10 minute) walk from Main Street, though it is down the hill on the way there and up upon return.
Cute and quaint 2 bedroom/ 1 bathroom. We enjoyed our time their with our family. Jasmine and breakfast staff were attentive and offered a full delicious breakfast. Thank you Bestsy, we had a great stay. ~Cruz Family~
The rooms are very clean and decorated with period appropriate furnishing and design, with the exception of the kitchens which have all the enmities needed to cook meals with today's appliances and electricity! A fabulous breakfast and great company were a wonderful way to start days in the common dining room of the main house. Anything I needed, I'd ask and it was provided. Fresh air and trees, a short walk to the center of Montpelier or, in the other direction, to Vermont College's quad with fountain. Who could ask for more! Loved my stay!
